Performance
Like the Avenger sedan upon which it's based, the 2009 Dodge Journey is fairly unremarkable to drive. Steering is a little nonlinear in effort and there's not much road feel transmitted through the blocky steering wheel. On-center feel is decent, though, and it's easy to keep the Journey on the straight and narrow. Brake feel was mushy, sounding and feeling like we were stepping on a Nerf football. Braking distances were similarly only so-so, as the Journey came to a stop from 60 mph in 132 feet.
BMW 328i
What really set our 328i tester apart was its optional sport package, which provided a magical mixture of handling and compliance. We were treated to the best of both worlds, with a ride that was never harsh, and cornering capabilities that were downright exhilarating. You'd never guess that our 328i had the sport package from its supple composure over bumps and ruts, yet it carves through the canyons at a pace that would put some purpose-built sports cars to shame. Few vehicles at any price can match the all-around excellence of this sport-tuned chassis.
The 2009 Acura TL is bigger, heavier and more powerful than the TL it replaces. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 280 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque — only a smidge less than the outgoing, high-performance TL Type-S. Because of the weight gain, the '09 TL isn't quite the sprinter the Type-S was, but our test car accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, which is still respectable performance and on par with the BMW 328i. Out in the real world, the TL has no problem hauling itself up freeway on-ramps or dispatching slow-moving lane hogs. Although the TL's standard automatic transmission features only five speeds, it's hard to say it's any worse for wear, with smooth shifts, an eagerness to downshift (particularly in Sport mode) and standard paddle shifters.
Willow Laboratories News : Nissan Rogue SL 2WD Function
The Rogue's instruments and interior controls are a model of straightforward simplicity. The heating and air-conditioning are controlled by three large knobs with clear markings, and the similarly well-labeled stereo features a conveniently large display. Our one request is for Nissan to relocate the auxiliary audio jack from the radio faceplate to the center storage bin, making it easier to secure an iPod and keep the iPod cord out of the way. We also missed the optional wheel-mounted stereo controls not fitted to our test car.
